About IsItDownNow
IsItDownNow is a free tool to quickly check whether a website is down for everyone, or just for you.
How a check works
When you check a site, a serverless function running on Vercel's network makes a direct HTTP request to that site — first a HEAD request, falling back to GET if the site rejects HEAD requests — and reports back the HTTP status code, how long the response took, the final URL after any redirects, and a short human-readable reason if the request failed (DNS failure, timeout, connection refused, TLS error, server error, etc).
Because the check runs from our servers rather than your browser, it can tell you whether a site is unreachable for everyone, or whether the problem is local to your network, device, or ISP.
What we deliberately don't do
- We never fetch internal, private, or link-local addresses — only public domain names.
- We don't follow more than 5 redirects, and every redirect hop is re-validated.
- We never download or return the content of the site you're checking — only status metadata.
- We identify ourselves with a clear User-Agent (IsItDownNowBot) so site owners can recognize our traffic.
